Hello, my name is Amanda.
I am the Women’s Worker at Ridgeway Church and I help lead the music there. I have been coming to the Church since it started 10 years ago, when my twin daughters were beginning to help in Sunday School and to play and sing in the band. It has been wonderful to see Jesus being the foundation of their lives. I was brought up in a non-Christian family that was proud of its academic achievements, and I really needed to be humbled by God; I see it now as being brought to my senses!
Somebody gave me a book to read called The Fight by John White when I was in my early 30s, and as I read that Jesus has taken the weight of our wrongdoing onto himself I had
an overwhelming feeling of relief that has lasted ever since. We can’t free ourselves from our guilt, but he can! For much of my working life I have taught at music colleges and written about composers, but now I love the chance to study God’s Word and share that with others. Jesus is called God’s ‘Word’
because he shows us in bright living colours what God is like and that is much more exciting than anything else – even music!
As an older person I am enjoying a new lease of life, not just helping look after grandchildren but sharing time with many of the women in our church. As a working mother commuting into London time always seemed in short supply, but now I have the opportunity to get to know better the amazing people of all ages in my church. We are a wonderful mixed bag, brought together because of Jesus.
